A pitfall to avoid in digital painting is sampling too much color from a photo. This caricature critique of Michael Keaton examines why it’s important to study color and examines some structural issues with the drawing. More at http://proko.com/caricature
This student critique builds upon the previous lesson on using checklists to caricature a subject. For this lesson, the critique is broken up into two parts. The first goes over the dangers of sampling colors from photos to replicate a subject. The second goes over the abstraction process and fixing some of the structural errors of a caricature using a checklist. This is only a small part of critiques for the caricature course. To get more insight on how to improve your caricature drawings go to http://proko.com/caricature

Aaron’s Demo Description
Aaron Blaise is a former Disney animator and professional artist who’s a true master when it comes to drawing and painting animals. In this Masterpiece Demo you’ll get the opportunity to shadow him in his studio and watch him draw a large lion portrait from scratch. Starting with his process of selecting a photo and then moving onto sketching the layin and figuring out the anatomy. We tried to capture how Aaron draws when nobody is looking rather than how he draws for a demonstration at workshops. The true way he creates in his studio. A must have for those wanting to see the entire process and workflow of a professional illustrator. Get the demo at https://proko.com/blaise

Hey guys! I've been doing drawing tutorials for a while now and, while those are fun, I thought it would be great to do some casual vlogs on the side. Since Comic-Con is coming up, I've decided to kick off my new series by drawing a comic book character. I give you...Sgt. Slammer! A man so tough, so destructive, so swole he can destroy any concrete sidewalk!!!

Learn all about how to draw 3 cartoon styles of hands. I’ll go over the classic Mickey Mouse glove, general cartoon hands, and comic book hands. Want to learn about the anatomy of the hand? Check out the premium course - http://proko.com/anatomy
All of my hand lessons so far have covered how to draw realistic hands. I’ve broken down the anatomy and details of the hands and have shown you examples on how to invent them from imagination. But what if you only want to draw simple hands? Is there an easier method for drawing them? Well, cartoons are just exaggerations of reality. To exaggerate the hand, you have to know the hand. So while this lesson helps simplify the hands for you, it’s important for you watch the other lessons to understand the hands.

In this lesson Court teaches the Reilly abstraction of the head and how to apply it to caricature. Get the premium lesson at http://proko.com/caricature
What is the Abstraction? In simple terms, it’s a linear representation of the head, using flowing rhythmical curves that trace the connections between anatomical shapes and features. It’s a tool to help you improve the construction of your drawings, and is especially helpful in drawing heads at extreme angles.
Want more? Court drew additional abstraction examples of Mark Wahlberg, Taylor Swift, Bill Nye, Emma Stone, Whoopi Goldberg, Henry Winkler, Amy Adams, Christopher Walken and Drew Barrymore in the premium course - http://proko.com/caricature

Court critiques a student rough sketch of Howard Wolowitz from the Big Bang Theory and talks about capturing a likeness when drawing a caricature. More at http://proko.com/caricature
In this critique of Simon Helberg, Court shows the difference between distorting features and exaggerating them based on specific anatomical observations characteristic to that person. It's a very important distinction to do caricature correctly. If you need a refresher on exaggeration or the rough sketch process you can find both links to those lessons below. There’s also an additional 10 critiques in the premium course at http://proko.com/caricature

I sit down with Cuban-American artist Cesar Santos to ask him about his journey as an artist and his thoughts about art in general. We get deep and he teaches me how to philosophize :P

This interview includes a lot of questions, so for your convenience I’ve included a full list of timecodes to the questions below.
Cesar Santos and I recently went to a museum and did a little tour over there. You can find our vlogs here: Stan’s https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UNFBsLJl1Ng and Cesar's https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QrXAtbpkiRY

2:43 - What is a Magnet School?
3:21 - Which College did you go to?
3:42 - Why did you decide to drop out before you finished?
4:21 - How long did you study at the angel academy?
5:45 - How did you get to that first professional level so quickly?
6:38 - Did you go to a bunch of galleries or pick the one you wanted?
7:31 - What age are you when you got into your first gallery? Fill in the gap since then…
8:47 - Do you experiment with what your art represents
11:04 - Have you been studying with anybody?
12:24 - How did you study from the paintings at the museum?
14:14 - Why Cesar Santos has so many finished paintings in his sketchbook
15:37 - Did you study from books at all or go to museums? Were there any instructional books?
16:55 - What do you do today?
19:08 - How do you go against the grain of what other artists want from you?
19:59 - Are you talking about classically trained artists vs the artists that are doing modern stuff?
22:44 - Books and videos are an aspect of learning how to draw
23:34 - Did your art teachers ever go and paint on your paintings?
23:51 - Is that because that’s the best way actually learn it or because they didn’t want their style to influence your art?

There’s a lot more to hands than bones and muscles. Bones and muscles give it structure, but drawing the surface details like fat, skin, veins and nails shows the character, give hands more expression, and make your drawings look realistic. Full anatomy course at http://proko.com/anatomy.
I’ve poured all my experience into this hand lesson series. I’ll teach you hands in 4 parts… Part 1 explored the muscles of the hand and how to draw them. Part 2 (this lesson) teaches all the surface details, like fingernails, skin folds, and fat pads. In Part 3, I’ll show you a drawing process for drawing hands from reference or from your imagination. Part 4 is a treat: there’s 6 drawing demos, teaching you how to draw everything from relaxed poses to clenched fists. I even talk about foreshortening! In this lesson you’ll learn about how fingernails can define perspective, how skin folds can create realism and enhance the gesture, and how the fat pads can react to a hand’s movements. Want more?
