A pitfall to avoid in digital painting is sampling too much color from a photo. This caricature critique of Michael Keaton examines why it’s important to study color and examines some structural issues with the drawing. More at http://proko.com/caricature

This student critique builds upon the previous lesson on using checklists to caricature a subject. For this lesson, the critique is broken up into two parts. Aaron Blaise is a former Disney animator and professional artist who’s a true master when it comes to drawing and painting animals. In this Masterpiece Demo you’ll get the opportunity to shadow him in his studio and watch him draw a large lion portrait from scratch. Starting with his process of selecting a photo and then moving onto sketching the layin and figuring out the anatomy. We tried to capture how Aaron draws when nobody is looking rather than how he draws for a demonstration at workshops. The true way he creates in his studio.
