In this week's speed painting demonstration, I'm painting fall flowers using Inktense blocks and pencils on Fabriano Artistico Extra white hot pressed 140lb watercolor paper.

While I am using the whole set, you can mix colors easily with these so if you just want to try them out for the first time, the 12 pack of blocks is a decent set. http://goo.gl/3D6tBc

Today's critique was completed in colored pencil with the goal of realism. I've got some tips on making your own artwork look more realistic.

As always, I am in no way claiming that my tips are the only way to do things. These are just some pieces of advice that I would offer to my own students.

In music we call it a "cover" when we remake someone else's song. In fine art we don't really have a good name for it. Today I'm demonstrating my van Gogh almond branch "cover" in acrylic paint, and walking you through the steps I took to complete it.

I'm working on a Fredrix Natrue Core Mixed Media paint board and using Liquitex basics acrylic paints with createx airbrush paint on my background.
