The Sketch:
In this video I show you in real time how to create the basic sketch of the Mountains in the mist. This video's main purpose is to show you how to place all the objects so that everything flows and to work out the major placement. While doing this process, if anything would to be off like the mountains being too large, you would start to notice that when drawing in other parts of the image. The sketch helps to solve a lot of the problems that would normally arise when you skip the process. So this video helps to break down all the elements of the image so that you can easily place them back on the page.
I hope this video helps everyone out.

In this time lapse painting demonstration, I show you how I painted a surreal landscape with waterfall, dandelions and a girl with a violin in acrylic paint on a 24x30" Fredrix Blue Label Ultra Smooth Canvas. I used liquitex basics acrylic paint with createx airbrush paint with Liquitex Matte Medium for my taped edges.
The music playing in the background was written and performed by Greg McKnight on piano and me on violin.

In this video I show you the basics of how to sketch out the scene. I start out by showing a grid to help line up all the objects with better accuracy. The paper I am using is 6 1/4 inches by 10 inches. I use the paper horizontally so the vertical lines fall at 2 1/2 inches 5 inches and 7.5 inches dividing the page into thirds. The horizontal line falls 3.1/2 inches from the top of the page making the line below center.
These lines help with the accuracy of line placement of the objects of the drawing. This method is great for drawing from a reference image. Just make sure that the lines you create can be easily erased.

I started in this video by going over and describing a sketch that I had done and I am going to be using that as the basis for this drawing. I will also discuss a method of using a grid to help more accurately transfer over the drawing that was already created. I have always found that the initial sketch is the most important part of a drawing. It is the foundation and everything else gets placed on top of it. Make sure to fix any mistakes in this stage before moving forward. Once a nice solid foundation sketch has been created, some detailing can then come after. I will usually detail the elements of the drawing to an extent to help see more of what is going to take place in the drawing.
I hope that you all enjoyed part one of this new drawing series. Next part will show you the basic tonal ranges of the drawing as well as shading everything to a pretty close range of where they should be. I hope you all join me for part 2! Thanks a lot for watching everyone!!

In this video, I decided to get some work done in the background rock cliffs and the waterfall. I start off by darkening and adding in some more details for the rocks so that the waterfall will have more contrast so that it will stand out more. Drawing a waterfall is a back and forth process. I like to add in a small amount of tone with a 2H pencil or so. It really helps to have a sharp eraser for this part. I will start to erase out parts of the pencil to create the highlights of the waterfall. Once this is done, I go back in and darken up some of the water to help build up some contrast and give it a bit of character. Then going back in with the eraser and blending stump to smooth things over and then repeating the process until I get to where I like it. Once that is done, we can go back in and finish up some of the rocks.
Because of the waterfall that I added and some of the objects around it, I had to change the perspective of the water pool just slightly. I did this by adding in more rocks on the bottom that took away from where the water would be. This helped to create the illusion that we were standing in the drawing. When the pool was more rounded, it gave a more overhead look of it which was counteracting the other perspectives that I had already placed in the drawing.
Next video I will start to work on the ground details and get them more finalized. I hope you are all enjoying the series and would greatly appreciate your feedback! Thanks a lot everyone for watching!

Today's critique comes from artist Noora Tiihonen. These horses were drawn in graphite. We're talking about shading and detail work for a more realistic look. Here is a video that will give a description of everything that I will be using in the landscape series.
Some of the supplies I will be using are graphite pencils ranging from 4h all the way to 9b. Charcoal as well as charcoal pencils. These are very easily blended into the drawings and make very good tools to use. The charcoal ranges like pencils do. They range from hard to med to soft to ex soft. Hard being a lighter tone and harder to blend while ex soft is very soft and blends easily. I also use sticks of charcoal to fill in large areas very quickly
Erasers can vary very much. There are so many brands out there and many of them work very well. The pink erasers work very well for making very sharp eraser marks as well as the kneaded eraser. This one is like puddy and can be shaped into any form you wish. Other erasers range from cheap little white ones that are cheap. I also use a triangular eraser that works out very well. There are also gum erasers that leave a mess while erasing but pick things off the page very well. My favorite eraser is the retractable one. This is like a mechanical pencil but instead of lead being inside of it, its a very long piece of eraser. These are very good for making very precise erasing on the page. Very compact and great for on the go.
Blending materials My favorite object to use is a blending cloth. They are very soft and work very well. They are rather cheap and can also be substituted for paper towels and other types of cloth that are soft. The blending stumps come in 2 kinds. Tortillions which are very cheap and come in very long sharp points. These last a very long time and can be used very effectively in the drawing. They are hollow in the center so the points do sometimes get pushed in. The other type is a blending stump. These are fully compressed paper shaped into points at the ends. These work best. They are not hollow and I have used some of mine for over a year. They come in thicknesses of about an 8th of an inch all the way up to almost an inch in diameter.
You an also get a very conformable mechanical pencil with a rubber grip. They are more comfortable to use than regular pencils because you can grip them much easier. You can also get different fillings for it. You can get pencil grades from 9h all the way to 9b.
PLEASE SUBSCRIBE!
I used Oil paints on this one. This is a basic wooden tv table that we found on the side of the road. I got 4 of them and I plan on painting all 4 of them and putting them up for sale.
Hope everybody Enjoyed this. I had a very good time painting on a wooden surface. It was different but very fun.
