Today I'm reviewing the new Powder Blender from Brush and Pencil. I'm going to show you how easy it makes it to blend colored pencils smoothly for a soft blurry background, and still get tons of detail after. Today I'm walking you through how I painted this colored pencil portrait using Polychromos and Luminance colored pencils. I will be sharing some tips that you can use in your own portraits too!
For her skin tone, I used Luminance Burnt Sienna 10%, Titanium Buff, Paynes Grey 50%, violet Grey, White, French Grey, Sepia 50%, Brown Ochre 10%, Burnt Ochre 10% and Polychromos Nougat and Caput Mortuum.

In this speed drawing /time lapse video I demonstrate how I completed this portrait of "Spike" (James Marsters) from "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Angel" using General's Layout "extra black", Prismacolor Turquoise series, and Derwent graphic graphite pencils, General's Carbon Sketch pencil, a variety of shading tools, and an electric eraser on Strathmore's smooth paper. The total size is 11"x14".

In this time lapse painting video I demonstrate how I painted a barred owl in a winter scene. This painting was completed in May of 2013.
It was painted in oil paint (winsor & newton) over acrylic (liquitex basics) and air brushing (createx paint) /mixed media on a 14x18" Fredrix Blue Label canvas.
