Art Q&A - When do you need to prime a canvas? w/ Lachri

Do you always need to prime or gesso a canvas? Today's question comes from Alexandra who writes: Should you always prime a canvas yourself, even if it is pre-primed? I've seen some artists who do this and I'm not sure if it's really necessary.
