Learn how to draw The Impossible Triangle in 3D Anamorphic Optical Illusion.

The Impossible triangle is sometimes called the Penrose Triangle and is a 2D shape that you can draw, but it is impossible to make as a 3D shape. Anamorphic Perspective is a way of drawing where the image is distorted so that it only works from one angle and when viewed from this one angle will seem 3D, but when viewed from any other angle will look distorted.
In this narrated art tutorial I show you one way to combine both optical illusions in one drawing.

Please click on the link below to view more optical illusions:

I use a 4B pencil for this drawing. If you have a go, I found that the point of the pencil needs to look 3D and it is drawing the wrist of the other hand, which is just shown in line. Some shadow helps, as does turning the drawing around half way through.

I hope you have a go at this drawing and I hope you like, comment and share it!

Step by Step:
On grid paper draw a series of circles in a grid, connect them with grey lines, fill in background black. For this drawing I used a 4B pencil.

More information on the Scintillating Grid Illusion:
The Scintillating Grid Illusion is thought to be based on a neural process called lateral inhibition, the capacity of an excited neuron to reduce the activity of its neighbors. The Scintillating Grid illusion was discovered by E. Lingelbach in 1994 and is similar to the Hermann Grid Illusion, which was noticed by Ludimar Hermann in 1870. The Hermann Grid Illusion does not have white circles.

Circle Line Art School: Episode 225

Step 1:
Draw a small circle with a pencil

Step 2:
Draw a series of concentric circles around the first circle or oval; make sure the gaps get slightly wider in one direction and stay thin in the opposite direction

Step 3:
Using a black pen, colour in every other band of circles, making sure the thickness of each band is even.
On the side where the bands of circles get thicker, make sure after a few circles the white and black gaps on the thicker side stay even at their thickest part.

Step 4:
Now you should have a simple 3D optical illusion of a 3D tunnel and cone, in one drawing!

See How To Draw M.C. Escher's "Amazing Hands" drawing, step by step.

Start by drawing your other hand holding a pencil as if it is starting a drawing. Look carefully and draw the sharp tip of the pencil first.

Only use tone on your drawing for the pencil and the fingers near the pencil and some shadow cast by the pencil and the hand. These tonal shaded areas need to look 3-D, but the other parts of the drawing need to look like flat lines on paper.

Let the first drawing of the hand become a simple line drawing by the time you draw your wrist.

Then turn your paper upside down and draw in the same way again, making sure you start by drawing the point of the second pencil at the end of the line drawing part of the first hand you drew.

To finish your second drawing of your hand make sure the line drawing of your wrist just touches the point of the drawing of the first pencil point you drew. If this does not fit, you can change the line so it does meet up and complete the illusion.

I hope you enjoy having a go and please look out for more art videos in the future.
