Zoe Dufour is a master sculptor with incredible skill for modeling form. In this Masterpiece Demo you’ll get to visit her studio and watch as she creates a longer sculpture from scratch. She’ll show you everything you’ll need to get started, including how she makes her own tools. She’ll guide you through the entire process of sculpting a portrait from life, starting with the wire armature, then building up clay to get the large forms, and taking it to a finish with the details. After the clay sculpt is finished you’ll see how she makes a throwaway plaster mold and a cast with a base. In this student critique, Court breaks down his general method and thought process for refining a portrait sketch using the abstraction. It’s important that you use the abstraction to refine and improve your sketch instead of just tracing it. This step should improve the caricature and help you move on to the final sketch.

His work reflects both classical and modern interpretations juxtaposed within one painting. His influences range from the Renaissance to the masters of the nineteenth century to Contemporary Art. Time for some EXTREME EXAGGERATIONS! This exercise will help improve your caricatures while still maintaining a likeness. Get more examples at http://proko.com/caricature

One of the most fun and effective techniques to push your exaggeration skills is to make a caricature of a previous caricature drawing. And then to caricature THAT caricature! You’ll find that if you do this enough, you’ll be able to improve which features you exaggerate while still keeping the likeness of your subject. It’s an exercise that’s meant to be fun so don’t worry too much about going overboard with your drawings.

The assignment that I gave you was to give Skelly a butt! If you haven’t done this assignment I’ve included 3 photos of Skelly posed (http://proko.com/268), or you can use the skelly app (http://proko.com/skelly) to make any pose you’d like! Think about where each muscle originates and inserts. You can keep the lower leg as a simple cylinder, or a bloated cylinder. Think about how the forms of the butt muscles are distorted by the pose.
