"Hotaru no hikari" used to be sung at graduations in Japan. It's sung to the tune of the Scottish song, "Auld Lang Syne". Nowadays, the tune is played in stores at the end of the day to signify that they're closing.
Singer: Yasuda Mizuho
Lyrics Translated:
By the glow of fireflies, and the moonlit snow by the window,
Days and months spent reading,
Years have even passed, through the cedar door,
This morning, we leave.
Whether staying, or leaving,
Remember each other, in the
Depths of our hearts, in a word,
Sing, "Good luck".
Kana

あけてぞけさは、わかれゆく
とまるもゆくも、かぎりとて、
かたみにおもふ、ちよろづの、
こゝろのはしを、ひとことに、

Learn Japanese with JapanesePod101.com! You just cant seem to get the tune out of your head. Isnt that the way it always is. You hear a song, and it just wont leave your head. You find yourself humming it at the oddest times. You repeat the words over and over. Except this time, the song is in Japanese. You found the Japanese melody enchanting; it haunts you day and night. The Japanese lyrics are another source of interest.
These videos use Kanji (Chinese characters used in Japan) with small Hiragana over them (called Furigana), not Romaji. It's very important to learn Hiragana as soon as possible when studying Japanese as Romaji will hurt your pronunciation and hold you back from advancing in the language.
JapanesePod101 has a great series for teaching the basic Hiragana characters called Kantan Kana!
There are a few videos up on YouTube, so please check out the Kantan Kana series:
